Can someone help me get cute scene hair without the crazy coloring and birds nests look?

Hey, ive been trying to get scene hair for a while now but everytime i do it looks like a huge frizzy birds nest.I dont know if im not getting it cut right or not styling it right.I dont know how to explain i tto my hairdresser.But can someone help.I want more soft spikey look that is long but not thin from all the layers.But not too spikey, kinda like this:

you need to get big choppy bangs / fringe first.

and get some really short layers all round... tell you hairdresser you want just a few short layers.... and the rest to be kept long.

then just dip your fingers in some hair wax and rough the short layers up a bit. mess them about. same with the bangs.

keep the long layers neat, straighten if you must.
